Our Catering Menus

Our History

Our restaurant, formally known as the PRATA SHOP was not the first of our business. Our story goes way back to the 1950s. We are the fourth generation of the family coming into the business.

In the 1950s my great-grandfather used to run a restaurant together with my great-grand uncle. At the age of 20 my grandfather came to Singapore to join his dad in business. He learned the skills at a very fast pace.

When my great-grandfather left to India, my grandfather started his own restaurant at Tanjong Pagar named “RAMAKRISHNA VILAS”. He went through many hurdles back then. In 1983 the restaurant was relocated to Maxwell Road and renamed “NEW INDIAN” restaurant. That too did not end up well for him.

He then started another restaurant at Jalan Kayu. My eldest uncle Ramanan who just finished his national service also joined the family business. This is when our business picked up and became promising. Unfortunately, we had to shift out of there. The restaurant was then shifted to Sembawang and subsequently to Ang Mo Kio.

On 1st January 1993, Casuarina Curry Restaurant and Catering opened its doors at 126 CASUARINA ROAD. If you have been wondering about it why we have that name, you know it now! We then shifted to the currently situated 136, 138 Casuarina Road.

Casuarina Curry has been the pride of our family. We have been recognized by the media including the Straits Times, Mediacorp and Radio Stations. We have also represented our nation for “Singapore Day” which has been celebrated in countries like New York, China and London. We have also made Pratas for our previous and current prime minister during the swearing-in ceremony.

We now have 2 restaurants run by us including this outlet at 187 MacPherson Road. Together with the help of my uncles and the partnership of my best friend, this outlet has overcome many challenges, gained its own recognition and a pool of our own regular customers. We have been here since 30th March 2011. As young entrepreneurs, we had to put in a lot of effort to gain the customer’s trust and to believe that we can deliver just as good as the previous generation.

Since then we had gone on to cater to many big names such as Google, SIA, Facebook, Grab, Carousell and Exxon Mobil. We have won the people’s choice for best fish head curry award by class 95FM. Customer service and food quality has been our number one priority since day one.

At the MacPherson outlet, in addition to its wide array of Indian fare, we also have more innovative items! Exclusive menu was introduced such as a Super Long Jumbo Thosai, which is an eye-catching metre long; an Ondeh Ondeh Prata - thin, crisp Prata in the shape of a bowl served with a scoop of coconut ice cream, desiccated coconut, green jelly and gula melaka syrup; and Fiery Mala Murtabak an Indian Chinese fusion cuisine encompasses the diverse elements of culinary culture of Singapore.
